Doing the `rights' thing
Article Abstract:
Increased air fares combined with deteriorating airline service have created the foundation for a law that would provide passengers with a bill of rights. Four different legislative proposals are in Congress. These bills offer guarantees in service and more flexibility in using airline ticket segments in any order. There is another area that Congress needs to address. Decreased airline competition is reducing airline choices for passengers.

Surviving the stampede
Article Abstract:
A record-setting number of travelers, 47 million, are expected to use airlines and hotels during the December 1998 holiday season. This is a 5% increase above 1997 figures. This volume creates certain kinds of problems for which travelers should be prepared. A decrease in on-time arrivals, lost baggage, cancellations, and overbookings can hinder holiday festivities.

Speak out for service
